Arizona Corporation Commission Candidate Kiana Sears

Where Sears Stands!

Sears For Arizona Seeks:

A Clean Commission

The Arizona Corporation Commission is an amazing, unique branch of government intended to democratize the rules and rates that affect our utilities bills. Sadly, public trust in the Commission has recently crashed following a series of corruption indictments and conflict of interest charges.

As a servant leader, Kiana’s vision for the Corporation Commission starts with snuffing out corruption and ending secret deals.

As Commissioner, she will work diligently to restore the position’s former dignity. This means placing professionalism above politics in her approach to rate and rulemaking.

A Clean Campaign

Commission orders should make sense for everybody, not just the utilities companies.

Utilities companies receive a fair rate of return in Arizona per the Corporation Commission rules. Unfortunately, corruption in the form of bribery has caused former Commissioners to increase rates of the ratepayers. This hurts Arizona ratepayers who are hard working families, seniors and small business owners and destroys the integrity of the Corporation Commision, which was established to protect the Arizona ratepayers. Sears will always serve with honesty and transparency—and will restore integrity to the Corporation Commission.

Sears advocates for Arizona ratepayers and small business owners—not for utility companies and corporations. This is why she has chosen to fully fund her campaign publicly through Arizona’s Clean Elections program. As Commissioner, Sears will uphold her duty to serve the public—not special interests. Sears is a Clean Election candidate receiving public funds from the Clean Election Commission. She has chosen a publicly funded campaign to demonstrate her commitment to Arizonans rather than utilities companies such as APS, TEP/Trico, Global Water and EpCor.

A Clean Arizona

Sears is a champion for policies that protect our children’s right to breathe clean air and drink abundant clear water.

This means:

• Ending practices like corporate “water farming:” an industry which exploits local laws to export water intensive crops like alfalfa hay to the Middle East and China (even during droughts).

• Ensuring our water supply is clean and free of lead, paying special attention to decaying infrastructure in schools and rural areas.

• Urgently correcting the “F” and “D” grades communities like Tucson, Phoenix, Yuma, and Flagstaff receive from the American Lung Association for their air quality.

• Catching Arizona up on the massive job growth the rest of the country is experiencing in the solar industry.

Sears believes Arizona is the true “sunshine state.” Renewable energy prices are continuing to drop further below those of fossil fuels, and parts of Arizona are buying solar power at record low costs. However, despite our obvious solar advantage, only 6% of our state’s energy comes from the sun.

Sears fiercely supports efforts to legally require that 80% of Arizona’s energy come from renewables by 2050. Should voters choose to encode this goal into law, Commissioner Sears will staunchly oppose any attempts to undermine their will.

A Clean Election Candidate

As a Clean Elections candidate, Kiana believes we must pay special attention to three key aspects for our state to flourish: water, solar and the education of all Arizona’s children.
